What is the Coalition for Economic Justice?

The Coalition for Economic Justice (CEJ) is the local Jobs with Justice and Labor Religion Coalition affiliate in Buffalo, NY. We are a permanent coalition of faith, labor, and community groups fighting for the rights of workers in Western New York.

CEJ is WNY's leading advocate in the fight for Living Wages. We promote a progressive vision and agenda for economic development, both locally and statewide. We work closely with our labor allies both locally and nationally to push back on the vicious attacks on workers who try to organize a union. We have an active Workers' Rights Board-a 40 person board of prominent community and faith leaders, academics and elected officials that exerts moral, public and political pressure in order to support workers' rights. We believe in health care for all, and that health care is right not a privilege, We work with local partners to educate on, organize around, and advocate for affordable quality health care for all. CEJ also engages in building civic engagement, particularly on the East Side of Buffalo. This door-to-door voter engagement work is done based on the recognition that organizations such as CEJ must have roots in the community in order to organize progressive voters during election season and engage them in meaningful policy and organizing campaigns between election cycles.

If you have any questions about CEJ please call the Executive Director, Allison Duwe or their Organizer Micaela Shapiro-Shellaby at 716.892.5877.
